Middle East Mission Accomplished! "The visit is successful," said John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, at the end of a high-level delegation visit to Qatar and Kuwait. On the final of the trip (May 14), Mr Lee met representatives of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority and exchanged views with local government and business leaders. He also witnessed the signing of some of the 24 MOUs and agreements exchanged between government departments, enterprises, and organisations from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Kuwait. The visit resulted in a total of 59 MOUs and agreements, including those in both Qatar and Kuwait. Mr Lee also announced that the United Arab Emirates will grant Hong Kong 30-day visa-free access starting today (May 15), while Oman will on the same date extend its visa-free period from 10 days to 14 days. Strengthening ties with Kuwait. A business delegation comprising representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland enterprises, led by HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee, arrived in Kuwait yesterday (May 13), on the second leg of their Middle East trip. Mr Lee met with the Amir of Kuwait, Mr Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Mr Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah; and the Acting Prime Minister, Mr Fahad Yousuf Saud Al-Sabah, to exchange views on strengthening co-operation between Hong Kong and Kuwait. Mr Lee and the Acting Prime Minister witnessed the signing of Memoranda of Understanding by Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority respectively. Mr Lee also raised the prospect of signing a free trade agreement between Hong Kong and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries with support from Kuwait in its role as GCC chair in 2025. Partners for business success! A Hong Kong delegation, led by HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee, successfully wrapped up its visit to Qatar (May 10-12) with the signing of 35 bilateral accords covering a wide variety of sectors as well as a new arrangement allowing HKSAR passport holders to visit Qatar visa-free for up to 30 days. Mr Lee also met Qatar's government and business leaders to promote Hong Kong’s advantages and opportunities. Visiting Hamad International Airport in Doha, he learnt about an autonomous vehicle pilot project designed by a Mainland Chinese firm with its headquarters in Hong Kong.
